The story of The CDR Band

At the heart of CDR is the long musical and personal friendship of vocalist Carl Bonham and lead guitarist Darrel Christensen. First working together as the musical core of The Michelle Mayfield Band in 2002. The band played staple Austin venues such as Antoine’s and Steamboat. Opening shows for Los Lonely boys, Chris Duarte, Kerry Hendricks, along with summer outdoor festivals and an SXSW showcase with Patrice Pike. After multiple bassist and drummers but never quite finding the right fit for the band's rhythm section Michelle and the guys went their separate ways. Joining again in 2006, Carl and Darrel and a few friends formed the band SIX of One. This was an opportunity to get out and play and just have some fun. In 2010 they decided to break it down and go back to an acoustic duo forming The CD Release Party (Carl & Darrel's Release Party).

To save confusion (and printer ink) it was later shortened to the current CDR. While successful they were constantly asked, along with the ballads and sing a longs, to bring back Darrel’s punchy leads and power of the music. This lead to joining forces with Bassist Tom Burks and Drummer Tim Brandt in 2013 (fondly referred to as T-n-T). Still, one piece was missing. In 2015 the band added lead vocalist Winnie Marcus. Winnie is an established artist, performing solo and fronting bands throughout the Austin - Round Rock area. Adding Winnie was the perfect fit resulting in a band that now covered a wider range of musical genres. Artist such as ZZ Top, Melissa Etheridge, Alice-n-Chains, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Amie Winehouse, Eagles, AC/DC, Eddie Money, Tom Petty, Aretha Franklin, John Mellencamp, David Grey, Mark Broussard, ELP, Van Morrison, Beatles and more. Also covering many Texas and local artist. Of course, SRV and Willie but also including Cross Canadian Ragweed, Joe Ely, Pat Green, Lyle Lovett, Shake Russell, and Bob Snyder.
